3. Osborne 1

Launched in April 1981. This one is recognized as the first laptop computer. This device actually looked like an ancient version of what we use as laptops. In fact, it is recognized as the first laptop computer and it was the first commercially portable computer costing 1800$. 6. TRS-80 Model 100

This again resembles the look of a huge version of a calculator. It was popular all over journalists and radio jockeys. It was sold through Radioshack, the portable computer company. The journalists mention that they could type about 11 pages of text and then transmit it for editing using the built-in modem. It is a word processor phone directory and dialer. It even communicates with the office computer, just like today’s communication between watch and laptops.

7. Commodore SX-64

Invented in 1984 with some exciting features and finally a door opening device to the 90s technological brains. It was the first portable computer to feature a full-colored display screen. It was expensive indeed, sold for 995$. The weight of this laptop is 20 pounds. Its RAM is 64 Kilobytes and 1 MHz CPU. It did not sell as expected but is popular among the user groups and software developers as colored full screens got their curiosity. 8. IBM PC Convertible

This is invented in 1986 by IBM. It was the first laptop to be using a three and a half inch floppy disk format. This became the industry standard. Like modern laptops, it featured power management. 9. Compaq SLT/ 286

10. NEC Ultralite

Invented in 1989 by NEC. As the name suggests it is ultra light in weight and it was considered the first notebook style laptop. The weight of this laptop is less than 5 pounds which was the talk of the town. It has 5 MHz CPU and the price is 5000$.

11. Apple PowerBook:

In 1991, Apple launched the PowerBook. They had a failure with their first attempt of laptop. Apple reworked the concept and released the PowerBook line in October 1991. They created a stir in the industry because of the look and feel of the laptops were so stylish. The dark gray cases and positioning of the pointing device were known as their highlights. Macintosh Software was newly introduced by them and that gave a new wave in the industry.

12. Olivetti D33

Invented in 1992 by Olivetti. This is the first laptop featuring a touchpad, a replacement of mouse. The position of the touchpad is near the base of the screen. It was the norm of the day as many applications were text-based and there was no use of a mouse or a pointing device.

13. Olivetti Quaderno

The same year, in 1992, Olivetti released a smaller laptop named the Quaderno. It is capable of audio recording while the computer was off and almost instant boot up. It has got 16 MHz CPU AND 1MB of RAM and 20 MB of Hard disk space. How amazing is it to have a audio recorder in 1992 even when the power if off? This must have created a stir in the industry back then for sure.

14. Compaq Concerto

It was invented in 1993 by Compaq. Now hold your hearts tight and read it because we have a detachable laptop in 1993 itself. It has a detachable keyboard, pen, and touchscreen. Beat that in 1993. Isn’t amazing? Although it was touch, it only worked with a special pen much like today’s tablets. It was definitely ahead of its time

15. Toshiba Portege 2000

Invented in 2002 by Toshiba. It was the thinnest laptop to be developed at only three-quarters of an inch of the thickest part. It also featured the first 1.8 inches hard drive in a laptop.

16. Compaq TC1100

It was invented in 2004 with a very unique design. It was a hybrid laptop which included a touch screen, stylus, and tablet mode. Unfortunately, Windows OS was not a touch-friendly OS hampering its success. 2004 is too early for us to know about tablets and touch screens in India. Like the Concerto this was another laptop which is ahead of its time

17. Eee PC 701

It was invented in October 2007 by Asus. It is named Eee PC 701 which was the first netbook on the market. It featured a 7-inch screen and Intel Celeron M processor. And a 4GB hard disk.

18. Lenovo Yoga 13

Invented in 2012 by Lenovo, of course. It is considered as the first modern hybrid laptops taking advantage of Windows 8 touch interface. The name Yoga is a reference to units design which allows four different configurations and they are the stand mode, tablet mode, laptop mode and tent mode

19. RazerBlade Pro

Invented in 2013 as the first portable gaming laptop.at 0.9 inches thin and weighing 6.5 pounds. This was the most portable 17-inch gaming laptop in its class.

20. Lenovo Yoga Book

Invented in 2016, brought more functionality. By using a digitizer panel as a keyboard, the user was able to draw, write and type on the same panel. The tradeoff was the haptic feel and feedback when in keyboard mode.

21. Lenovo Yoga Book C930

It is a 2018 version of yoga book now uses e link for the keyboard panel. E-Ink allows for a more natural drawing surface and for custom input entry layouts depending on the application being used. And most importantly, it allows reading without wasting any battery or having to carry a second device. It is slim and light.

22. Asus Project PreCog

Asus is currently working with a project called PreCog which consists of a dual monitor laptop similar to the Yoga Book but without the limitations of e-ink. Both could be used as monitors by connecting an external keyboard or both monitors can be used for gaming or for presentations.
In laptop mode, one monitor is used normally like how we use the regular laptops, while the other is used as the keyboard or control panel
